Bureaus

Future Archaeologies' bureaus are more than simple offices; they are hubs of innovation, creativity, and collaboration. Strategically positioned, our bureaus are intended to seamlessly integrate within a myriad of environments, from theatres and museums to academic institutions, private sector giants, and even governmental establishments. This guiding principle is not by chance but is a testament to the organisation's strategic commitment to fostering partnerships and collaborations that will amplify its mission.

Every bureau, regardless of its setting, is entrusted with the responsibility of championing at least one Temporal Project. These projects, tailored to the bureau's environment, reflect the versatility and adaptability of Future Archaeologies. A bureau housed within a theatre might breathe life into a groundbreaking stage production, while another situated within the walls of a museum might embark on a journey of art creation, curation, or even restoration. The Temporal Projects are not mere initiatives; they are the heartbeats of each bureau. Whether they emerge from symbiotic partnerships or are the brainchild of a standalone bureau, each project is meticulously curated, ensuring it not only aligns with the organisation's ethos but also paves the way for mutual growth, learning, and enrichment.

As Future Archaeologies casts its gaze forward, there's a tangible aspiration to not just collaborate but to also establish a permanent footprint. The organisation envisions acquiring lands adjacent to its bureaus, transforming them into sanctuaries for its Temporal Projects. This vision extends to owning infrastructure, a move aimed at cementing the organisation's independence, ensuring its sustainability, and carving out spaces that resonate with its mission. However, while the magnetic pull of property and cultural epicentres is strong, Future Archaeologies is not bound by them. The organisation's mission is vast, transcending geographical boundaries. It seeks to be a beacon, illuminating diverse voices and narratives. This means a bureau could find its home anywhere that resonates with the organisation's core values. And while the physical size of a bureau might vary, its spirit remains constant. Each bureau is designed to be a dynamic space, capable of accommodating 6 to 12 poets per programme. Moreover, the organisation's agility allows it to launch multiple programmes concurrently, ensuring that its mission is always in motion, always evolving.

Bureau Design and Infrastructure

Every bureau of Future Archaeologies, regardless of its geographical placement or spatial dimensions, is meticulously crafted to exude a consistent, welcoming aura. The design blueprint, while uniform across bureaus, is steeped in visitor-centric principles:

  • A prominent and inviting front window, serving as a visual gateway to the world of Future Archaeologies.

  • A hospitable reception desk, acting as the first point of contact, offering both guidance and a warm welcome.

  • Ergonomically designed desks for the dedicated staff, juxtaposed with a central collaborative space, fostering both individual productivity and collective brainstorming.

  • Secure and organised storage units, safeguarding the invaluable archives, ensuring easy accessibility without compromising on security.

  • A minimum of two immersive interactive stations, meticulously designed to offer visitors to dive into the Bureau’s projects and initiatives.

In line with the overarching philosophy of Future Archaeologies, the refurbishment of each bureau is approached with reverence. The intent is not to overhaul but to rejuvenate, ensuring the space's intrinsic character and history remain undisturbed. Every addition, from functional furniture to ambient fixtures, is handpicked, echoing the organisation's commitment to sustainability, minimalistic elegance, and pragmatic utility.
